NATIONAL CHILDREN'S MONTH

2025 National Children’s Month Celebration

This year’s National Children’s Month focuses on the theme “OSAEC CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” which means “End Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM): Fight for the Safety and Rights of Children!” This theme is very meaningful because it reminds everyone—parents, teachers, the government, and even young people themselves—that children’s rights and safety must always come first. In today’s digital world, many children are exposed to the internet at a young age. While it helps them learn and connect with others, it can also be a place where people with bad intentions try to take advantage of them. That is why spreading awareness about online safety is so important, especially now that technology is part of daily life.

Even with these actions, there are still many challenges to overcome. Some children and families are not aware of existing laws or don’t know where to ask for help if abuse happens. In addition, not all schools are equipped to teach digital safety, which leaves many young people at risk. Education about online safety should be included in school lessons, and communities should have programs that teach both children and adults how to use technology responsibly. Beyond that, protecting children’s dignity also means listening to their voices and allowing them to express what makes them feel unsafe. By understanding their experiences, we can make better solutions that truly meet their needs.

The government has been making efforts to protect children from online and offline abuse. Through the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), programs that teach families about cyber safety and digital literacy have been launched in different parts of the country. These programs help parents and guardians guide children on what is safe or unsafe to do online. There is also Republic Act 11930, or the Anti Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children Act, which was created to punish those who harm or exploit minors on the internet. In some provinces, like Ilocos, government agencies are joining forces to hold campaigns that teach people how to recognize and report cases of child abuse. These efforts show that protecting children’s rights is a shared responsibility that involves the entire community

Even with these actions, there are still many challenges to overcome. Some children and families are not aware of existing laws or don’t know where to ask for help if abuse happens. In addition, not all schools are equipped to teach digital safety, which leaves many young people at risk. Beyond that, protecting children’s dignity also means listening to their voices and allowing them to express what makes them feel unsafe. By understanding their experiences, we can make better solutions that truly meet their needs.

In conclusion, the 2025 National Children’s Month celebration serves as an important reminder that every child deserves to live in a safe, supportive, and loving environment. Ending online sexual abuse and exploitation is not only the job of the government but of everyone including parents, teachers, and communities. When we all work together to protect children’s safety and uphold their rights, we build a future where they can grow with confidence, dignity, and hope.

Echoes of Old Vigan

 SOPHIA LOUISSE REOTUTAR                                                                               10-MARTINELLI

==================================

VIGAN CITY

Nestled in the heart of Ilocos Sur, the Heritage City of Vigan is one of the most captivating tourist destinations in the Philippines. It is a place where history, culture, and tradition come alive through its well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture and cobblestone streets. Walking around Calle Crisologo, you’ll instantly feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. The elegant ancestral houses, vintage street lamps, and horse-drawn kalesas give the city a charming old-world atmosphere. Vigan’s unique blend of Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish influences makes it truly one of a kind and deserving of its title as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A trip to Vigan would not be complete without tasting its famous dishes. The city is known for its mouthwatering Vigan Longganisa, a garlicky and slightly sour sausage that perfectly represents Ilocano flavors. This local delicacy is best paired with rice, vinegar, and tomatoes for a hearty breakfast. You can also try other favorites such as Vigan empanada, filled with egg, meat, and vegetables wrapped in a crispy orange shell, and the crunchy bagnet, which is the Ilocano version of deep-fried pork belly. These dishes are not just food, they tell the story of the people’s  love for flavor, simplicity, and authenticity.

Vigan is also known for its rich artistry and industries. One of the most fascinating traditions here is burnay pottery, a craft that has been practiced for hundreds of years. In local workshops, skilled potters mold and shape clay by hand to create burnay jars, pots, and vases. Each piece is carefully baked in a traditional kiln, resulting in sturdy and beautiful earthenware. Tourists are welcome to try making their own pots, which makes for a fun and memorable experience. This craft reflects not only the people’s creativity but also their hard work and dedication to preserving their heritage.

To complete your Vigan experience, take a relaxing kalesa ride around the city. The rhythmic sound of the horse’s hooves against the cobblestones, combined with the golden glow of the streetlights, creates a peaceful and romantic atmosphere, especially at night. As the kalesapasses through Calle Crisologo, you can see souvenir shops, art galleries, and cafés that light up the streets, offering the perfect view of how Vigan blends its past with the present.

Vigan is more than just a destination, it’s a living museum that continues to tell the story of the Filipino spirit. Its timeless charm, warm people, delicious food, and strong sense of culture make it a must-visit place for both locals and foreigners. Every corner of Vigan has a story to tell, and every visit feels like rediscovering a part of our nation’s identity.

This second quarter has been a time full of learning and growth for me. I discovered new lessons not just in academics

but also about myself. I learned how to manage my time better, especially when there were so many projects and deadlines to meet. I also improved my writing and communication skills, which helped me express my thoughts more clearly. Working with my classmates taught me the importance of teamwork and how great things can happen when everyone shares ideas and works together. This second quarter has been a time full of learning and growth for me.  Of course, the quarter wasn’t always easy. There were times when the workload felt too heavy and I didn’t know where to start. Some lessons were hard to understand at first, and I sometimes found myself losing focus because of distractions. There were moments of stress and pressure, especially when I had to finish several tasks at once. I learned to ask questions and seek help when I needed it instead of trying to figure everything out on my own. Taking short breaks and giving myself time to rest really helped me regain focus. I also made it a habit to review my lessons regularly, which made me feel more confident and prepared for quizzes and exams. second quarter has been a time xfull of learning and growth for me. My Teacher, My Hero

 Sophia Louisse Reotutar                                             10-Martinelli

___________________________________________

                                 My Teacher, My Hero

Every year, the celebration of Teacher’s Month gives us a moment to pause and appreciate one of the greatest influences in our lives our teachers. The 2025 theme, “My Teacher, My Hero,” reminds us that teachers are more than just educators. They are our everyday heroes guiding us, inspiring us, and helping us become the best versions of ourselves. Their heroism is not displayed in grand battles or loud victories, but in the quiet sacrifices they make every single day: staying up late to prepare lessons, patiently explaining until we understand, and believing in us even when we doubt ourselves.

Teachers shape not only our knowledge but also our values and character. They teach us lessons that go beyond books, lessons about kindness, perseverance, and respect. Whenever they see potential in us and encourage us to chase our dreams, they become the heroes who ignite the spark of hope and confidence in our hearts. Without them, there would be no doctors, engineers, artists, or leaders, because behind every successful person stands a teacher who once said, “You can do it.”

I express my gratitude to my teachers through small but meaningful ways. I make sure to listen attentively in class, complete my tasks with effort, and show respect in my words and actions. A heartfelt “thank you” or a simple letter of appreciation can already mean so much to them. During Teacher’s Month, I take time to reflect on how much they’ve helped me grow, not just academically, but emotionally and morally as well. I know that their hard work often goes unnoticed, so I want them to feel how deeply appreciated and loved they are.

As I look forward to the future, I carry with me the lessons and values my teachers have instilled. They have taught me that learning never stops and that true success is built on discipline and compassion. For me, honoring my teachers means living out their teachings being kind, responsible, and determined in everything I do. Teachers are indeed heroes, not because of their power or fame, but because they continue to shape the future, one student at a time. Their influence lasts a lifetime, and their legacy lives on in the hearts of those they’ve touched.

SCIENCE MONTH CELEBRATION

Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation

The 2025 National Science Month theme, “Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation,” makes me realize how science is not just about experiments in laboratories, but about people’s lives and the future we dream of. The unknown can sometimes feel scary, but science shows us that it can also be full of hope and opportunity. Every discovery, whether in medicine, technology, or the environment has the power to change the way we live, solve problems, and create better paths for the generations after us. (DM No. 271, s. 2025 2025 National Science Club Month and ...)

In the years ahead, science and society will continue to walk side by side. Science will guide us in finding solutions to problems like climate change, food shortages, and health crises. But society also has a big role: to understand, support, and use these discoveries wisely. After all, science is not only for scientists, it is for everyone. The progress we make will mean more if it reaches ordinary people and improves lives in real and lasting ways.

This celebration reminds us that investing in science means investing in our own future. By encouraging young minds to be curious and creative, we prepare a new generation of innovators who will face challenges we may not even imagine today. Science gives us the courage to face uncertainty, while society gives science its purpose and direction.

The theme is a call for all of us to believe that the unknown is not something to fear, but something we can harness together. With curiosity, innovation, and compassion, we can turn uncertainty into opportunities that will truly power our shared future.

Climate Change and Resiliency of The Filipinos

 Sophia Louisse Reotutar                                                                                                     10-Martinelli

_________________________________________________________________

Climate Change and Resiliency of The Filipinos

Climate change greatly impacts the lives of Filipinos, yet their unwavering resilience allows them to adapt swiftly. The Philippines, located within the Pacific Ring of Fire is one of the main subject to extreme natural disasters which forces its people to think fast and strive to minimize the damage as much as possible. Despite these constant challenges, Filipinos continue to unite as one in order to demonstrate their strong determination to rebuild and grow a powerful foundation for their communities.

Aside from their strong perseverance, Filipinos also show remarkable ingenuity and strong dedication to display excellence in their daily lives. Farmers cleverly plant crops to ensure the security of food even in midst of storms, as families adjust their routines and make thoughtful decisions to subsist with  frequent flooding and other natural disasters. These efforts not only reflect their adaptability but also their commitment to protecting their livelihoods and supporting one another in the face of constant challenges. (Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery [GFDRR], 2016)

Amid challenges, Filipinos also show compassion by reaching out to help those who are in need. Whether it is during a great calamity or other natural disasters, neighbors and even strangers come together to provide support with each other; completely disregarding social and background difference. This local compassion not only helps communities recover faster but also strengthens the bond among people, showcasing a culture built on cooperation, generosity, and resilience. (United Nations Development Coordination Office, 2025)

In summary, the Filipino spirit shines brightest in the face of difficulty. Their resilience, resourcefulness, and compassion allow them to navigate the challenges imposed by climate change while maintaining strong unity. Through courage and determination, they continue to rebuild and adapt, showing that strength is not merely found in perseverance but in helping others as well.

INTRAMURALS 2025

Every year, one of the most exciting events in our school is the Intramurals. It is something that students always look forward to because it is more than just playing sports. it is a time for fun, teamwork, and building friendships. The whole campus feels alive with cheers, laughter, and excitement as everyone comes together to celebrate this special event.

The program usually starts with the parade of athletes, where each team proudly shows off their banners and colors. This is followed by the lighting of the torch and the oath of sportsmanship, which remind us that the true goal of the games is not just to win, but to play fair and respect one another. These opening activities set the mood for the days ahead, making everyone feel the spirit of unity and sportsmanship.

What makes the Intramurals so memorable are the different competitions. Students compete in basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, track and field, and many more. Some schools also include other activities like cheerdance, e-sports, tug of war, or traditional Filipino games. The variety of events makes sure that everyone has a chance to join in, whether you are good at sports, dancing, cheering, or even strategizing.

But the Intramurals is not only about sports. It is about the lessons we learn while playing. We learn teamwork, because winning is not possible if players don’t trust and support each other. We learn discipline and determination, because athletes need to train and give their best during the games. We also learn about sportsmanship, which means accepting both victories and defeats with respect and humility. And for everyone who cheers on the sidelines, it teaches us the value of support and encouragement.

Personally, what I love most about Intramurals is the way it brings us closer together. It is a break from the usual classroom routine, and it gives us a chance to bond with our classmates and friends in a different way. The cheers, the friendly rivalries, the laughter, and even the close games all become wonderful memories that we carry with us long after the event ends. It is in these moments that we truly feel our school spirit and unity.

In the end, Intramurals is not just about trophies or medals. It is about the experience of playing, learning, and growing together. It reminds us that school is not only about academics but also about developing our character, building friendships, and discovering our strengths. That’s what makes Intramurals one of the most meaningful and unforgettable parts of our school year.

THEMATIC OUTPUT

September is not just another month—it’s a reminder that we all have a role to play in taking care of our environment. Did you know that it’s National Clean Up Month here in the Philippines by virtue of Proclamation No. 244? And from September 17 to 23, we also celebrate World Clean and Green Week.

These events may sound big, but the truth is, they start with small actions from people like us. Picking up litter, planting a tree, reducing plastic use, or simply reminding a friend to throw trash properly—these little things add up to something greater when we do them together.

This year’s theme, “Let’s Clean-Up and Blog!”, is a fun twist. It’s not just about joining a clean-up activity, but also about sharing our experiences online. Imagine writing about how you and your classmates joined a clean-up drive, how your family planted trees on a weekend, or even how you started using eco-bags instead of plastic. By blogging or posting about these simple acts, we inspire others to do the same.

I think that’s the real beauty of this celebration—it’s not only about cleaning our surroundings, but also about spreading hope, awareness, and responsibility. A single post, a shared story, or even one picture of a clean-up day can encourage someone else to care for our planet too.

So this September, let’s do more than just talk about change. Let’s live it. Let’s clean up, blog about it, and keep reminding each other that a cleaner, greener future starts with us.

Cleaning matters because it helps us live in a healthier and happier place. When we keep our surroundings clean, we avoid sickness, feel more comfortable, and enjoy a fresher environment. It also shows that we care—not just for ourselves but for others too. Even simple things like throwing trash in the right bin, joining a clean-up drive, or recycling can already make a big difference. In the end, cleaning is one way of showing love and respect for our home, our community, and our planet.

Planting is important because it gives us fresh air to breathe, food to eat, and shade to keep us cool. Trees and plants also help reduce floods, protect animals, and make our surroundings more beautiful. When we plant, we are not just putting a seed in the ground—we are giving life, hope, and care for the future. It’s a simple act, but it shows love for nature and ensures that the next generations will still enjoy a healthy and green world.

Before cleaning:

After cleaning:

September is a month that reminds us to care for the environment through National Clean Up Month and World Clean and Green Week . It encourages everyone to take part in activities like cleaning, recycling, and planting to keep our surroundings healthy and safe. September teaches us responsibility, unity, and love for nature, showing that small actions—like throwing trash properly or joining clean-up drives—can create a big impact for a cleaner, greener future.

Reflection for the First Quarter

                                                                         REFLECTION

    A.  In the first quarter of ICT, I learned many new things that helped me understand technology better. One of the lessons was about the timeline of the internet, where I discovered how the internet started and how it continues to improve through the years. I also learned about the internet itself, how it works, and why it is very important in communication, learning, and even business. We studied web browsers and how they allow us to search and open websites, and I also discovered how servers store and provide information online.

Aside from these specific lessons, I also gained more general knowledge and skills. I learned the importance of being a responsible digital citizen by using the internet safely and wisely. I realized how ICT makes studying easier, especially in research and presentations, and how it improves my ability to communicate, collaborate, and be creative. This quarter also taught me discipline in managing my time when using gadgets, and patience when exploring new tools. Overall, my first quarter in ICT was full of discoveries that will not only help me in school but also in real-life situations where technology plays a big role.

B.  During the first quarter in ICT, I also experienced some challenges while learning. At first, it was difficult to fully understand new concepts such as the timeline of the internet, web browsers, and servers because they involved many technical terms. I sometimes faced technical difficulties like slow internet connection, which made it harder to follow lessons or complete tasks. Another challenge was managing the amount of information we had to study, since there were many new ideas to remember. Applying what I learned in actual activities also required extra effort and practice. Aside from that, balancing ICT lessons with other schoolwork and avoiding distractions while using the internet were also challenging. Even though these problems came up, they helped me become more patient, focused, and determined to improve.

C.  To overcome these challenges, I tried to focus more during discussions and ask questions whenever I felt confused. I also reviewed my notes and searched for simple explanations online to understand the lessons better. When I faced technical problems, I practiced patience and managed my time wisely so I could still finish my tasks. I also learned to be more disciplined by setting limits when using the internet to avoid distractions. These experiences taught me to be resourceful, responsible, and more determined in improving my skills in ICT.

D.  Moving on, I will continue to improve my knowledge and skills in ICT by studying harder and practicing what I learn. I will try to manage my time better so I can balance my schoolwork and avoid distractions when using the internet. I will also use technology more responsibly, not only for entertainment but also for learning and discovering new things. Most importantly, I will stay open to challenges and new lessons because I know they will help me grow as a student and prepare me for the future.

Food and Nutrition Security: Our Right, Our Priority

Nutrition Month is celebrated every July in the Philippines. It was made official through a law called Presidential Decree No. 491. This celebration helps people understand why eating healthy food is important for the body. The National Nutrition Council, or NNC, is the group that leads and plans the activities for the whole month. Nutrition month shows interactive and lively activities where it should persuade and encourages students to prioritize their health more.

The main goal of nutrition month is to teach Filipinos, especially students, how to take care of their health. It highlights the important keypoints that they should implement on their selves, like choosing meals that are good for their body, where they should eat more fruits and vegetables and avoid junk and processed foods. It encourages Filipinos to eat well, live healthy, and take care of their bodies through proper nutrition.

The Ilocos Sur National High School had already started celebrating the nutrition month which is led by the TLE Department and other clubs. This year’s theme is “Food and Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!”. It says that having enough, safe, and nutritious food should be a top priority. This is important to keep every Filipino healthy and strong. The theme also reminds us that having the right food is not a privilege but a right of every person. That’s why the government, schools, and every family should work together to make sure no one goes hungry and that everyone has access to healthy food every day.

In July 14, students from different special programs came together to display a brainpower and awareness for the Nutri Quiz 2025, where every round, the participants showed determination and teamwork. It was a powerful reminder that all us chould be healthy. In the next day, July 15, the young artists showcased their talent in the Digital Poster Making Contest. It was a meaningful reminder that each stroke, color, can hold the power to inspire. July 16, the Grade 9 Food Festival happened. That each dish was a symbol of creativity, and importance. Then July 17, Extemporaneous Speaking Contest, empowering mids, inspiting change through words. July 22, where a lot of activities where done, Fruit and Vegetable Salad Making Contest, Oratorical Contest, and Nutrition Month 2025 Food Festival. July 29, the Grade 10 Food Festival and Nutri Jingle, such a memorable experience. And July 30, the Food Festival Grade 7 to Grade 10.

Nutrition Month is important because it helps people understand how eating the right food keeps us healthy and strong. It teaches children and adults to choose healthy meals and avoid food that can harm the body. This month also reminds families, schools, and the community to work together in making sure everyone gets enough healthy food. It’s a way to fight hunger and sickness, and to help everyone, especially the poor, have a chance to live a better, healthier life.

MY ANECDOTE

A lot of people tell me, "why are you always laughing?" or "why are you so cheerful?", and I tell them, "well that's really how I am". You will always see me laughing around the corner or smiling around people. I like to try to stay positive no matter what happens. If I get a low score in an exam? I will feel upset but I'll just laugh it off. I choose to focus on the bright side of my life. If I were to describe myself as something, I would say that I'm a balloon. Just like a balloon, I am full of happiness and cheerfulness.

My name is Sophia Louisse Reotutar and I'm 15 years old. I was born on October 13, 2009 in Cabuloan, Sta Catalina, Ilocos Sur. My mother is Rosefey Reotutar. She is working in Dubai as an acocountant. I like to do things like reading, traveling, and sleeping . The thing that I don't like the most is when someone in front of me is walking really slow, especially when I'm in a rush. One little fun fact about me is that I can eat a whole box of pizza in one sitting.

When I grow up, I want to become a successful accountant, just like my mother. I want to follow in her footsteps and help other people with managing their finances. I think being an accountant is a a great profession where I can use my skills in math and be organized with numbers and documents. I hope I can get into a good university and pursue my goal. Life may not always be perfect, but I believe that intelligence and perseverance is the key.
