2025 National Children’s Month Celebration

This year’s National Children’s Month focuses on the theme “OSAEC CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” which means “End Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM): Fight for the Safety and Rights of Children!” This theme is very meaningful because it reminds everyone—parents, teachers, the government, and even young people themselves—that children’s rights and safety must always come first. In today’s digital world, many children are exposed to the internet at a young age. While it helps them learn and connect with others, it can also be a place where people with bad intentions try to take advantage of them. That is why spreading awareness about online safety is so important, especially now that technology is part of daily life.

Even with these actions, there are still many challenges to overcome. Some children and families are not aware of existing laws or don’t know where to ask for help if abuse happens. In addition, not all schools are equipped to teach digital safety, which leaves many young people at risk. Education about online safety should be included in school lessons, and communities should have programs that teach both children and adults how to use technology responsibly. Beyond that, protecting children’s dignity also means listening to their voices and allowing them to express what makes them feel unsafe. By understanding their experiences, we can make better solutions that truly meet their needs.

The government has been making efforts to protect children from online and offline abuse. Through the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), programs that teach families about cyber safety and digital literacy have been launched in different parts of the country. These programs help parents and guardians guide children on what is safe or unsafe to do online. There is also Republic Act 11930, or the Anti Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children Act, which was created to punish those who harm or exploit minors on the internet. In some provinces, like Ilocos, government agencies are joining forces to hold campaigns that teach people how to recognize and report cases of child abuse. These efforts show that protecting children’s rights is a shared responsibility that involves the entire community

In conclusion, the 2025 National Children’s Month celebration serves as an important reminder that every child deserves to live in a safe, supportive, and loving environment. Ending online sexual abuse and exploitation is not only the job of the government but of everyone including parents, teachers, and communities. When we all work together to protect children’s safety and uphold their rights, we build a future where they can grow with confidence, dignity, and hope.
